I want to explain how to edit subtitles in this video.
Open one of the lessons and hit “Edit Subtitle.” In this part, single-word boxes are put together and form subtitle sentences.
To see typical sentences, you need to hit the eye icon.
Also, you can change the speed of the video by hitting the ring-play icon and choosing a custom speed.
If you hit each single-word box, a toolbar will arise. The first icon helps you to move all the words from the beginning of the sentence to the current word to the previous sentence.
For example, I want to move “Dose anybody” to the previous sentence; to do that, I hit the “anybody” box and then the back icon from the toolbar.
So as you see, the “Dose anybody” phrase has moved to the previous sentence.
Let’s do the reversion action. I mean, let’s move “Dose anybody” to the following sentence; to do that, I hit the “Does” box and then the forward icon from the toolbar. So as you see, the “Dose anybody” phrase has moved to the first sentence again.
The third icon is the edit which helps us start editing the current word, and you can fix the spelling and punctuation problems.
The next icon is the delete, where you can remove the current word.
Sometimes you need to add missed words to the subtitle. A plus icon in front of each single-word box allows you to add a new word at that position. For example, if I want to add a new word between “anybody” and “want,” I can hit the plus icon, which is placed after “anybody,” and thereby, a “Word” box is created. Then, finally, I hit the Edit icon and edit the “word.”
If we want to add two words between them, the best way is by adding them one by one, which means first you must add the first word and edit it and sync it in the timeline, and then hit the plus icon in front of the first word and add the second word.
There is an arrow-up icon that you can hit and hide the video. This icon would help you to focus better on editing the words and timeline.
The timeline is at the bottom part of the page and is used for editing words and sentences’ time range.
The needle in the timeline shows the current time of the audio. So if you play the video, you’ll see that progress simultaneously with the audio.
The backward icon in the timeline makes the video go back two seconds ago, and the forward icon causes the video to go ahead two seconds later.
Each word box starts at a specific time and ends at another time. With the needle, you can move over the word boxes and watch the start time and end time of each word at the top-center part of the timeline.
The current word that speakers say will be on the green. In typical sentences, you can see the current word in blue.
The word boxes in the timeline play an essential role, as they help us synchronize the words with speakers’ voices.
At the left and right-hand sides of every word box, you can see the triple dots that help you to adjust the word start and end times. You can drag these two sides and change the box’s range time.
The sensitivity for the first and last words is a little more. Because if you resize them wrongly, there will be conflicts between them and the next or previous sentences. for example, it can be a conflict between the end time of the last word of the current sentence and the start time of the first word of the following sentence.
For example, let’s see an example in action.
As you heard, the voice of the speaker of the following sentence is inside of this sentence. So we need to fix the last word box size to correct the time range for this box and to sync with the audio.
Now let’s play the video again.
As you see, our edit fixed the sync problem, and you can’t hear the other speaker’s voice anymore.
